Empowering Peter's Dreams
Peter Lacey, a Garawa, Mitakoodi, and Torres Strait Islander from Darwin, has forged a path that honours his heritage and strives for academic excellence. His journey includes significant achievements in education, journalism, and community engagement.
In 2008, Peter was awarded a Yalari scholarship to attend Scotch College in Adelaide, a transformative experience that opened new horizons and laid the foundation for his future endeavours. While at Scotch College, Peter took advantage of both academic and extracurricular opportunities, graduating with distinction in 2012.
Driven by a passion for storytelling and a desire to amplify Indigenous voices, Peter pursued a degree in Journalism at Swinburne University of Technology in Melbourne. His academic journey refined his communication and critical thinking skills, equipping him for a successful career in media. Peter’s work with ABC and NITV/SBS was more than a job; it was a platform to engage with and represent Indigenous communities, bringing important stories to light.

Transitioning from journalism to a role in education, Peter returned to Scotch College as the First Nations Coordinator. In this role, he was instrumental in mentoring students and enhancing the presence of Indigenous culture within the school community.
Alongside his professional career, Peter continues to advance his academic qualifications. He recently reached another milestone by being accepted into the postgraduate medicine program at Flinders University. This new academic pursuit underscores his relentless dedication to learning and his ambition to impact public health, especially within Indigenous communities.
