What We Do

Yalari is a not-for-profit organisation that offers quality, secondary education scholarships at leading Australian boarding schools for Indigenous children from regional, rural and remote communities.

We believe education is the key to generational change and a brighter future, and we are deeply committed to the ongoing success of our national program of scholarships and post-school opportunities.

Since 2005, Yalari has been providing Indigenous children with full scholarships for their entire secondary school education. Strong and productive partnerships with 28 of Australia’s leading boarding schools are a cornerstone of our success.

In 2017, there are 169 students on secondary school scholarships nationally and an Alumni group of 169 who are studying at universities, working or undertaking further training. Yalari's pastoral care commitments are a major focus for us and a key factor in our successful operating model.

We aim to nurture the ‘whole’ child – giving everyone a chance to shine and lead in their own way by recognising their personal potential, not only those who are academically gifted or good at sport. To support our commitments to our scholars, we have a dedicated and passionate team of professionals throughout Australia, supporting our students, their families and our partner schools on a daily basis.  We also have considerable expertise represented in our board members, our small management and administration team, and many dedicated volunteers who contribute their experience in a range of professions and disciplines.

Our students have many chances for life-changing experiences, through their education and boarding school experiences, travel and camps during school holidays, and involvement in Yalari fundraising activities. Through these experiences, their confidence and abilities bloom.

Positive future change begins with the actions we take today with our children, and the Yalari team is determined to see this change happen for our students. Our core values of Compassion, Openness, Respect, Resilience and Inclusiveness underpin our approach as we focus on doing what we commit to do.

It takes a whole community to educate a child.
